BIRCH HILL APARTMENTS

Birch Hill Apartments, transformed an empty downtown lot, vacant since a fire in 1993, into 20 brand new affordable independant living apartments for seniors age 55 and older.

DC led a collaboration between a coalition of community partners including the City of Lewiston, the Lewiston Housing Authority, MaineHousing, Coastal Enterprises Inc, Northern New England Housing Investment Fund, and Northeast Bank. Despite a credit crunch that rocked the affordable housing industry, the project was completed in the spring of 2010.

Birch Hill was built in accordance with the Maine Housing Green Building Standards. Design of the building focused on energy savings, water efficiency and indoor environmental quality. During construction, a total of 89% of all project waste was recycled. Birch Hill’s central location means many community resources including Kennedy Park, the Lisbon Street shopping district, churches, hospitals and other cultural attractions are accessible to the tenants within easy walking distance.
