155 Danforth is a newly constructed building thoughtfully designed to complement the historic character of Portland’s West End. The project adds 30 affordable apartment units to the neighborhood and serves as Phase II of a larger effort to address housing insecurity among women.
Phase I, located next door at 66 State Street, created 38 Single Room Occupancy (SRO) units for women experiencing homelessness, operated in partnership with the nonprofit Amistad. Together, these two phases not only bring critically needed affordable housing to the area but also provide a transitional living opportunity for Amistad clients who are successfully completing treatment and recovery programs.
Originally envisioned as a market-rate condominium project, the development was transformed through Developers Collaborative’s commitment to public purpose, resulting in 68 affordable homes for women at a pivotal stage in their lives, when access to safe, stable housing is both vital and extremely limited.
