In the heart of downtown Brunswick, the former Central Fire Station is being reimagined — transforming from a historic community cornerstone into a vibrant new space that reflects the energy and growth shaping the town today.

Brunswick’s Continued Growth and Vitality

Since the closure of the Brunswick Naval Air Station in 2011, the town has undergone a remarkable transformation. The redevelopment of the site into Brunswick Landing has exceeded expectations, fueling economic growth and creating a thriving hub for innovation, business, and community life.

From Flight Deck Brewing and Wild Oats Bakery to Bamforth Marine and The MARC, Brunswick Landing has become a destination in itself. Recently, Mölnlycke Healthcare announced a $135 million expansion, adding 80,000 square feet and dozens of new jobs — an investment celebrated by Governor Janet Mills, Senator Angus King, and other local leaders. Their presence underscored what many already know: Brunswick’s future is bright.

The area’s growing housing base has been key to sustaining this momentum, supporting the workforce and fueling the local economy. With continued development and new opportunities ahead, Brunswick is positioned as one of Maine’s most promising communities for sustainable, long-term growth.

Downtown Revitalization: A Community Effort

While large-scale projects like Brunswick Landing draw headlines, revitalizing downtown areas remains a top priority statewide. Maine’s downtowns are the beating hearts of their communities — offering culture, small business vibrancy, and social connection.

Developments like the Central Fire Station restoration embody this spirit. Though modest in scale, projects like this one play a crucial role in maintaining Brunswick’s unique character while supporting its evolution. Recent visits from Governor Mills to both Brunswick Landing and the Firehouse site highlight the importance of these community-driven efforts — proof that small wins contribute to big progress.

Experience the Best of Brunswick

Visitors and residents alike can enjoy a packed calendar of local events thanks to the Brunswick Downtown Association, including 2nd Friday Brunswick, the Arts Festival, Music on the Mall, Maine State Music Theatre, farmers markets, and the beloved annual Tree Lighting ceremony.

A trip to Brunswick wouldn’t be complete without experiencing Bowdoin College, home to the Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum, Bowdoin Art Museum, and countless cultural and athletic events. A crisp fall walk across the historic Bowdoin quad captures the essence of this charming town.

And for those traveling to the area, the Amtrak Downeaster provides convenient and reliable service to Brunswick and beyond.

A Look Inside: Central Fire Station Progress

As work continues at the Central Fire Station, the transformation is well underway. Each phase brings this landmark closer to its next chapter — blending thoughtful design, sustainability, and modern craftsmanship to create something new while honoring the building’s legacy.
