Central Fire Station Redevelopment
Central Fire Station in Brunswick, Maine

Great progress this week...finally!

We’re excited to share that the Central Fire Station redevelopment is moving forward in a big way. Everyone involved is thrilled about bringing five new affordable apartment units to downtown Brunswick. The financing complexity required to make it happen has been sobering. Thankfully, we’re through that phase.

On the construction side, major milestones have been hit:

  • The old boiler and underground storage tank are gone.

  • Second-floor demolition is well underway, uncovering soaring 13-foot ceilings and layers of building history—carpet, linoleum, mastic, subfloor, and more. We’re hopeful that, beneath it all, we’ll find original floors worth restoring.

This is truly two projects in one:

  • The second-floor residential component is supported by MaineHousing and the Brunswick Housing Support Fund.

  • The first-floor commercial space is being financed by Bangor Savings Bank, with our tenant-to-be, Moderation Brewing, ready to grow into the space.

A huge shout-out this week goes to Mattie Daughtry, Phil Welsh, Angela, Percy, and the whole Moderation Brewing team. Their patience, commitment, and shared vision have been remarkable as we've worked through the financing complexity of the housing side. We’re incredibly grateful to have them as partners in this project. Check out their thoughts on what this expansion means to them and the community: Moderation Brewing – Fire Station Project
