It’s been a fun and exciting month for Central Fire Station when it comes to media coverage!
On August 31st, Maine Life aired a special segment spotlighting communities served by the iconic Downeaster service and Central Fire Station was featured prominently! If you missed it the first time, no worries, it will air again on Sunday, September 14.
We also saw some great local press: the Brunswick Times Record published a thoughtful and informative piece about our affordable housing and mixed-use redevelopment of the old Brunswick fire station including the exciting news that Moderation Brewing will be relocating to the ground floor. The article features quotes from both Mike and Mattie, offering insight into the vision and momentum behind the project.
It’s always energizing to see this kind of coverage, stories that affirm our mission and highlight the progress we’re making to bring new life to this historic space.
Of course, real progress rarely comes without a few surprises. As crews were working to connect the water line, they uncovered an unknown underground storage tank—an unexpected twist and a significant logistical challenge. It’s a good reminder that even with careful planning, we’re sometimes at the mercy of what lies beneath (literally).
On a lighter note, Nolan captured some of the more peaceful and reflective moments from the past month in the short video below. It’s a great visual reminder of why we do this work, even when things get messy.
Thanks for following along and for your continued support as we move forward with creating five new affordable apartments and a new home for Moderation Brewing at the Central Fire Station.
About the Project
The former historic Central Fire Station is being transformed into Apartments at 21 Town Hall Place, a mixed-use community hub. The ground floor will house Moderation Brewing, expanding production, entering the wholesale market, and serving as a community anchor with a lively taproom, indoor/outdoor seating, and a beer garden.
The second floor will provide five modern, affordable efficiency apartments with air conditioning, on-site parking, and laundry facilities, targeted to households earning 60% or less of the area median income.
This project combines historic preservation, small business growth, and affordable housing, creating a model for Maine Downtowns that supports workforce retention, community engagement, and revitalization. Opening is planned for Spring 2026.
