The historic downtown building is being redeveloped into five affordable apartments with ground-floor commercial space, with residents expected to move in beginning in May.

A familiar building in downtown Brunswick is preparing for its next chapter.
Developers Collaborative is nearing completion on the redevelopment of the former Central Fire Station at 21 Town Hall Place, transforming the historic structure into a small residential community with ground-floor commercial space. When finished, the building will offer five affordable efficiency apartments designed to bring new housing opportunities to the downtown area.
The apartments are expected to welcome their first residents beginning May 1.
Preserving History Through Adaptive Reuse
Originally constructed as Brunswick’s central fire station, the building has long been part of the town’s civic landscape. Through thoughtful renovation and adaptive reuse, the project preserves the building’s historic character while updating it for modern residential use.
Inside, the redevelopment introduces contemporary building systems and amenities while maintaining the spacious feel created by the structure’s original architecture. Apartments feature high ceilings, bright layouts, and practical storage, helping maximize functionality in compact efficiency homes.
The project also includes major building improvements, including the addition of a new elevator and modern energy systems to support comfortable, efficient living.
Adaptive reuse projects like 21 Town Hall Place help extend the life of historic buildings while supporting the continued vitality of downtown communities.
