AFFORDABLE HOUSING

BIRCH HILL APARTMENTS

Birch Hill Apartments is a 20-unit elderly housing building planned for the center of Lewiston, Maine. The site is currently an empty lot with an exceptional location, located a block away from Kennedy Park, three blocks from the Lisbon Street shopping district, and within easy walking distance of the rest of Lewiston’s cultural attractions, churches, and hospitals.

The project benefitted from strong community support in the City of Lewiston to overcome extremely challenging financing conditions. Thanks to community partnerships that included the Lewiston Housing Authority, the Maine State Housing Authority, Coastal Enterprises Inc., Northern New England Housing Investment Fund, the Developers Collaborative, and Northeast Bank, the project was able to celebrate its groundbreaking in April 2009.
